How to measures atrophy of supra spinatous muscle

Cross-sectional schematics of rotator cuff. Muscle atrophy of supra spinatus (SS) muscle also is evaluated by using tangent sign, which is considered negative when superior border of supra spinatus is superior to line tangential to coracoid and scapular spine (arrow).

This view is taken in the lateral part of the obligue sagittal section where the coracoid process is connected to the scapular spine.

Postoperative oblique sagittal T1-weighted MRI in this  patient. Oblique sagittal T1-weighted MRI of the right shoulder in 69-year-old man shows severe atrophy and fatty degeneration of supra spinatus and infra spinatus muscles.

Muscle fatty degeneration was evaluated in the most lateral oblique sagittal T1-weighted MR image in which the scapular spine was seen in contact with the scapular body (the so-called Y-shaped view).
