Muscle sprains

-Grading of muscle sprains:

1-Grade 1: Muscle edema with preserved morphology(here the muscle appears normal in T1 and hyper in T2).Here it is the only needs to look to T2 image, if the T1 image is normal.

2-Grade 2: Muscle damage of up to 50% + sub acute blood at the site of the tear(muscle appears hyper intense in T1&T2).

3-Grade 3: Complete muscle tear +/-  retraction and atrophy(best seen in axial images with comparison to the opposite site---the affected muscle appears smaller in size if compared to the other side).

-The most famous 2 muscles affected by sprains are obturator externus and adductor longus.
