Lateral collateral ligaments

A)Are formed from 3 ligaments

1-Anterior talo fibular ligament.

2-Posterior talo fibular ligament.

3-Calcaneo fibular ligament( Not seen by imaging).

B)Search for fibula at the level of malleolar fossa.

1-The posterior ligament is the one arising from malleolar groove running medially and horizontally.

2-The anterior ligament is the one seen lateral to fibula and running oblige and vertically.

3-Tear of the ligament(any ligament) could be :

-Acute tear where you cannot see the ligament and its site will be filled with fluid.
-Chronic injury where you will see the ligament enlarged but without signal inside it.
