Sinus tarsi syndrome

1-Sinus tarsi is the distance like a groove between talus and calcaneus.

Seen on the lateral aspect of the foot in sagital plane between talus and calcaneum.

2-It contains two ligaments and fat.

Cervical ligament is the black line running horizontally toward apex of talus.

3-These two ligaments, one of them is long(cervical ligament) while the other is short(inter osseus ligament), and they are not seen at the same section.

4-It is only assessed in sagital plane.

5-Patient suffering from tear of one of ligaments causing sinus tarsi syndrome, appeared as a lake of water with disappearance of this ligaments.

T1 shows lake of fluid in the site of the sinus(Asterisk)

T2 shows lake of fluid in the site of the sinus.

Sinus tarsi syndrome could be due to presence of a ganglion.

Coronal view shows a ganglion in T2 image.
